Since December 1993 Civil service training in Latvia is organized and provided by the Latvian School of Public Administration (LSPA).

LSPA general function is to ensure and co-ordinate training process, to develop new training programs and general curricula for civil servants.

The priorities of the curricula are forwarded in conformity with the State Civil Service law, where it is stated: regular duty of a civil servants is to update professional know-how, to improve skills and abilities in order to benefit function in the position.

In accordance with the current needs of various civil service target groups LSPA has nominated priority courses:

• EU studies;
• Administrative process studies;
• Corruption prevention studies;
• Drafting of law and regulations;
• Project management.

As most effective we find interactive training methods - to combine theory with practical examples, cases.

LSPA offers a catalogue of more than 100 training course.

LSPA employ about 100 trainers.

It is never too late to learn. I tend to hope that life-long learning will help civil servants achieve respect and appreciation among the people of Latvia.
